Farewell To The Old Green Room

Last Saturday saw us bid our final farewell to the legendary old Green Room.

Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes was joined by Mike Rabbit, Stephen Reid, Peta Winney-Baartz and old boy greens legend Ronny Rose to reminisce and share stories of many memories enjoyed in the green room.

It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces including many of the old boys, senior and junior players and supporters come along to mark this occasion.

Ron Rose removed the Green Room sign and club members walked the honour boards from the old green room to the new green room in the Clarke Stand.

This was a huge milestone in the history of the club as we said goodbye to the old and welcome the amazing new Green Room facility.

It certainly is strange to see the old green room now gone, but we hope that this space can now be used as a children’s playground and further enhance the facilities of Mitchell Park.

Thank you to Nuatali and to everyone who came along on the day.

Thank you also to Stewart Hazell who took these wonderful photos that will be cherished by the club and form part of the club’s history.

New Green Room Update

Construction is in full swing on the much anticipated Green Room. After a lengthy delay in handover to the club for fit-out commencement, we now have keys inhand ready for the next stage in our club’s great history.

The build was broken into two stages made up of base build and fit out.

Works to be completed under the base build contract with NCC and Kingston Building consists of:

  • Refresh of the existing change rooms, referee rooms and toilets underneath the existing grandstand
  • Installation of a new elevator
  • Construction of the new gym located on the ground floor and to the rear of the existing grandstand
  • Construction of the new green room shell
  • Landscaping works

Works to be completed under the fit out contract with MCRC and Core Project Group consists of:

  • New full length bar
  • Two new bathrooms located upstairs in the green room
  • Gym fit out on the ground floor
  • New cool room located on the ground floor
  • Fitout of ceilings, floors and walls inside the green room
  • New frameless operable doors to the front of the green room overlooking Townson Oval
  • Air Conditioning, Lighting and AV inside the new green room

Core Project Group, full of current and former greens players, are about two weeks into the fit out of the green room and are looking to hand over just in time for the first home game of the season against Singleton on 11th May.

Many hands are making light work, with plenty of volunteers, sponsors, players, old boys and trades from within the greens community helping out to keep us on track for the grand opening.

The wait is almost over.
